Breaking the silence - a quick update

Given our current circumstances it may not be too surprising that it’s been a long time since we last wrote. That said we are still sorry for such a long period of silence. We’ve always tried to keep this blog updated fairly regularly since we know how important it is to keep communicating. It’s ironic that it’s at times when things are hardest and you need people to know how you are and how they can be supporting you that it feels impossible to find time to communicate! In reality, Liz has been working on a blog (slowly, bit by bit) for the last month. We’ve been waiting to put that up but she just hasn’t had enough time/energy/concentration to finish it yet. So, for now, this blog is just to say we’re still here, we’re still alive (at times just about)!

For the last six weeks Liz has been on medication for depression and that seems to be helping. Her chronic fatigue is still a real challenge but she is trying to stay active and is generally feeling more positive. She is also benefiting from help at home during the day, with friends and church contacts each coming in for a few hours to help around the house or look after Levi.

Levi continues to develop and has started on some small ‘solid’ foods. So far he likes parsnip but isn’t so sure about apple – go figure!?! We can’t believe he will be six months old in less than two weeks! In some ways that time has flown by, in others it has been a real slog. Thankfully his smiling face has always kept us going.

I (Matt) am really starting to get into my new role based at the Wycliffe Centre. I’m enjoying trying my hand at various different things but am particularly enjoying getting to think more broadly about the importance of education in the broader context of development work. I’ll write a bit more about this in our next newsletter that is due any day/week now!

Please continue to pray for us all in this ever-changing life! In particular please pray that Liz’s strength and health will continue to improve and that we can continue to know how to be good parents to our lovely little boy. Thanks!
